This paragraph is from a book called A Parent's Guide. It tells of a conversation President David O. McKay had with his mother.
How May We Know When We Are In Love?
“That is a very important question. A fellow student and I considered that query one night as we walked together. As boys of that age frequently do, we were talking about girls. Neither he nor I knew whether or not we were in love. Of course I had not then met my present sweetheart. In answer to my question, ‘How may we know when we are in love?’ he replied: ‘My mother once said that if you meet a girl in whose presence you feel a desire to achieve, who inspires you to do your best, and to make the most of yourself, such a young woman is worthy of your love and is awakening love in your heart.
Overcoming the Natural Man
Sometimes, I come across a quote that I just love and I need to write it down somewhere so I never forget it. This quote sums up so many of the things I feel on a daily basis. I came across this quote while doing my religion homework. It is a quote by our beloved prophet Joseph Smith:
"Now, in this world, mankind are naturally selfish, ambitious and striving to excel one above another; yet some are willing to build up others as well as themselves" ( Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 297).I try to do this every day. It's so easy to get consumed with your own self. I find that I get slightly depressed when I focus too much on myself. I wonder why I feel that way until I realize that I am only thinking about me. I know that when I make an effort to build someone else up, I am truly happy. I need to balance out the needs of myself and the needs of others and focus the right amount of energy to both. If I can continue to do that, then maybe one day, it will just come naturally to me.
